Elneny back running as he steps up his recovery

Mohamed Elneny back in training following his knee injury

Mohamed Elneny has returned to the training pitches at London Colney as he continues to recover from his knee injury.

The Egyptian midfielder has been out of action since January when he suffered the setback in the build-up to the north London derby, and has since undergone five months of rehab.

However he took a significant step towards returning to first-team action when he was pictured running for the first time since surgery alongside our fitness coach Ricky Oโ€™Donoghue and first-team coaches Nico Jover and Carlos Cuesta, and from his trademark smile it was clear to see our longest-serving player was thrilled to be out of the gym and back on the grass.

He was also congratulated by Mikel Arteta and his teammates for his hard work and determination to get back to this point.

Mo made eight appearances for us this season, scoring once in our FA Cup third-round success against Oxford United, and while he is likely to be out for the final few weeks of this campaign, it seems he is on the road to return fit and ready for pre-season come the summer.

Recently, Mo discussed the pros and cons of fasting during his recovery period as he observed Ramadan.
