After our narrow defeat to Manchester City in the Adobe Women's FA Cup, Jonas Eidevall shared his reflections on the result.
Here's everything the boss had to say:
on the performance...
There were a lot of things in the performance that I'm proud of. But we were on the wrong side of the margins today. We were on the wrong side if the ball is over the line or not over the line. We were on the wrong side whether there was a penalty or not a penalty, which hurt us today with the result.
I think from a performance perspective, what we could have focused on more was our final pass, especially in the first half, in order to create more from the very good situations that we played ourselves into. We should have created more from that and the first half if we're self-critical. But when we look at the game in total, and we look at goalscoring opportunities in total, I think we were the better team. So that, of course, makes it tougher to accept the defeat.
on the hesitancy with the final action...
I don't know. It's a hard one because obviously, the decision-making is there for the players and sometimes the ball comes exactly how you want and it becomes natural for you to go on your first touch.
Sometimes, you need to correct that and maybe go with your second touch and then the chance gets smaller or maybe the angle is not there anymore and you have to reconsider. So small, fine margins.
on mental recovery from setbacks...
There's no doubt that we're really disappointed with the two last results. That doesn't mean that everything in those two performances was bad. I think we played strong today against a very strong Manchester City. I don't think we deserved to lose against West Ham. I think there were a lot of things that we did well in that game also.
We don't really get the margins, either from the things we can control or the things that others can control. That's what we're playing against at the moment. We just need to work harder on the things that we can control. We cannot allow this to steal any focus from what we can control and we need to put our focus in the right direction.
on Leah Williamson's performance...
It's been a real delight to see Leah being reintegrated into the team again. She managed to do almost 75 minutes today. I think Laia Codina showed some really good qualities when she came in as well. So we have a really good squad. I think we put [City] under a lot of pressure at the end of the game and we're of course gutted that we couldn't put a goal away.
on our upcoming matches...
One game at a time. Let's focus on the one on Wednesday. That's going to require 100% focus to start with. And after that, of course, we look forward to the game at Emirates Stadium
