Goals from Beth Mead and Caitlin Foord gave us a solid win over Everton on Saturday afternoon, and Jonas Eidevall was largely pleased with the performance.
Here's everything the boss had to say about the win and our efficiency in front of goal at Meadow Park.
on our performance...
I'm really happy with the first 70 minutes of the game. I think we moved the ball very well. I think we played past their pressure in a really good way a couple of times. We pressed good, we pressed in a collective way.
I think the only thing that I'm not happy with in the first 70 minutes is that we only scored two goals and that we managed to concede a goal on basically only one chance that they had in the game. So we should have a bigger margin going into there.
Then I think if we had conceded a goal in the end, I think we would have been really disappointed with the way that we played the last 15 minutes. And I know it was disrupted a little bit with players being out having treatment and so on.
I still think we lose a lot of rhythm. I think we lose a lot of the way we want to play. And that's important for us that we stick to that. I do think we think too much about the scoreline at that time and we should think less about that and more about how we play. That we need to do better.
on our efficiency in front of goal...
Well, I think today we managed to create a lot of good goalscoring opportunities, and high-quality chances and that's really important. And we managed to do that, not only coming from the sides, but we also had a lot of nice central combinations.
And that variety is really nice to see. I think we have good movements, good fluidity, and good creativity from the players and I'm pleased with that. So today, it was more about putting the goal actually in the back of the net.
on Lia Walti's Player of the Match performance...
Yeah, definitely. And I think the sixes play such a big part in the way that Everton presses because they will direct a lot of the play from the opponents in central areas. And having two sixes that are so comfortable on the ball with Wally and Vic, it's really important.
on how Emily Fox is settling in...
Yeah, I think that's credit to the whole club, from operation to players to staff that the onboarding process has been really nice for Emily. I think you can see that with the way she's been able to integrate within the team as well and start to get relationships building on the pitch.
But also, a good understanding of her role in the team. So when you see her play today, you don't think that she has only been here for so little time that she has been. So that's been really nice. But I think that's a joint effort. It's her doing a tremendous job with that, but it's also a lot of other people making that easier for her.
