#ContiCup: Three things we noticed

WHO ELSE BUT...

Vivianne Miedema gave us the lead inside five minutes with a strong finish on her left foot from just inside the penalty area, cutting back with her right before beating City keeper Ellie Roebuck. This goal was Miedema’s first in 2020, her 27th of the season in all competitions and her third in the Continental Cup this season after her brace against Bristol City back in November. The Dutch star’s latest strike was our quickest in the competition and second fastest this season. Danielle van de Donk leads that particular race after scoring inside three minutes in the WSL at Brighton & Hove Albion.

DOUBLE DUTCH

Sticking with the Dutchwoman, Van de Donk got involved on Wednesday night by grabbing our second just before half-time, admittedly with a little help from City keeper Roebuck after she let the ball slip through her legs. The Dutch international’s third goal of the competition came thanks to an assist from fellow countrywoman Miedema - who proved yet again that she’s a creator as well as a poacher.

HAT-TRICK OF FINALS

We’ve reached the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final for the third season in a row and, although we didn’t keep a clean sheet on Wednesday, this was the first goal we’ve conceded in the competition this season. We’ll be making our eighth appearance in the final having won it five times, most recently in 2018 when we beat City 1-0. This year we’ll be facing Chelsea in the final for the first time, hoping for revenge following their recent 4-1 win at Meadow Park in the WSL.
