Petr Cech held his hands up after the mistake that put Swansea City in the driving seat on Tuesday.
The goalkeeper - on the brink of his 200th clean sheet - miscued a clearance just after the hour mark, allowing Jordan Ayew to give Swansea the lead.
Cech’s error capped a bad night for the team, and he came out of the dressing room to face the media after the game.
on a poor performance and result…
Well, they defended well and we simply made mistakes. When you keep making mistakes then obviously at this level the team can take advantage of that and I thought that going 1-0 up was a big breakthrough for us. We took advantage of the game but unfortunately they managed to equalise pretty quickly and in the second half I obviously made a mistake for the second goal and then we made a mistake for the third goal. You can chase the game and make a lot of effort, but if you give your opponent two goals like that then it is very difficult.
on the conditions…
The pitch was very wet and slow and when you have a team like that, you need to keep the ball going fast and moving fast and have a lot of movements to create openings for the chances and obviously when the game was their way, when the equalised and second half, they could use the same set-up. We gave them the second and the third goals and it was a huge advantage for them.
on our away form…
We are aware that the position in the table that we are in, is thanks to the away form. It’s as simple as that. At home we are strong and we are getting points and we take advantage of playing at home. But for some reason away for home it is not happening for us. You can see it is not once or twice, it is the same type of game too many times this year. We try to find the solution, but obviously we haven’t found it.
