Catley - Why I can't wait for the FA Cup

Catley

Steph Catley may be one of our most experienced players, but she will still get a taste of something new this weekend.

Our summer signing is expected to feature in Saturday's Vitality FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur and cannot wait to get going in the competition.

"It's a brand-new experience for me," she said. "The reason you play football is to win trophies, so to come in at such a late stage and be really close to winning one is really exciting. In Australia we love our finals football and we definitely get up for those games. I'm really excited for that.

"I wanted to come to a top club and one of the big motivating factors is the Champions League, and always trophies. Any footballer is lying if they say that they don't ever want to win trophies. There's so many to be won here in England, which is different from back home and in America. That concept is definitely one that brought me over here.

Our north London rivals secured loan moves for Orlando Pride stars Shelina Zadorsky and Alanna Kennedy, but made headlines with the acquisition of marquee signing of World Cup winner Alex Morgan.

And having also made the switch to the FA Women's Super League this summer, Catley understands exactly why so many players are crossing the Atlantic.

"I don't think there's a better league to be in right now within women's football," she said. "This is where everyone's at really, so that's really exciting and I think there's going to be some massive matches coming up against some of the teams that have recruited really well. I think most teams have to be fair.

"There are players in every team who, in their country, are some of the best players. I think it's going to be a very, very exciting league. Some of the Americans are here because the league over there has been struggling, so that's not ideal but it's good that they could come here, get games and give this league even more quality."
