Interview

Blackstenius: “I was in shock at first!”

Stina Blackstenius might not be fond of doing interviews, but it’s hard to get away from them when you score the winner in a UEFA Women’s Champions League final!

Our Swedish forward came on alongside Beth Mead in the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Barcelona, and the two combined to give us a crucial late lead in Lisbon.

Speaking at Monday’s trophy lift celebration outside Emirates Stadium, Blackstenius said: “It’s just amazing standing here with this team and all of you. We won the Champions League and it just feels unbelievable in every way.

“It’s a huge game to play, I was quite nervous, of course.”

Manuela Zinsberger interjected: “She knew she was scoring!”

“No I didn’t know, Manu,” Blackstenius replied. “But we did speak about stretching them, it only takes one opportunity.”

Her eyes must have lit up when she received a clever reverse pass from Mead, who put it on a plate for our cup final hero.

“It all went so quick,” she recalled. “It was a really, really good pass, and I just tried to hit the target. When I actually saw it was a goal, I was a bit in shock at first, but then just so happy.”
