It was a very happy return to our starting lineup for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Our club captain had been sidelined since contracting malaria while on international duty with Gabon last month, but made the most of his first start in April, scoring our second at St James' Park.
Auba spoke to the media after the game. Read on for every word:
on how much we needed to win...
We needed this one. I think after a few games without winning, it was important to win just before our important game on Thursday. It's good for the confidence for all the team.
on him scoring against Newcastle again...
It was a great goal. I think Gabi did incredible work today and he gave me this assist as well. All credit to him. I was really happy to score.
on getting off to a fast start...
This was the idea for the team. I think we did a great job as a team. We pressed them and we played our game. We were able to win that way.
on coming back to score...
I have to say, when you are out for a few weeks you realise how good it is to be back on the pitch. I was really happy to be back first and scoring a goal.
on how pleased he was for Mohamed Elneny...
It was a great goal as well and I'm so happy for him. He's a great guy.
on how he feels after 78 minutes...
At the end for the last five minutes I was dying a little bit. But to tell the truth, I felt good the whole game so I was really happy with that. I have to say that the doctors did incredible work with me, bringing me to the hospital and stuff like that. I'm really thankful for them.
on a big week for us...
It was really important to take some confidence and win this game. We know that we will need everyone to be ready on Thursday. We saw that today, everyone was ready and hopefully we can go through.
