Arteta: You always want to do better

We have now scored 31 goals, conceded just three and won seven consecutive Premier League goals during a sensational run since the start of 2024. But Mikel Arteta still wants more.

The manager was delighted with what he saw from his team at Sheffield United, after we blasted to a five-goal lead by half-time and eventually recorded a third 6-0 win of the campaign. But at the final whistle the manager challenged his players to maintain the high levels they have been setting in recent weeks.

“I’m really happy,” he said. “Obviously coming to this ground is always very difficult. And the team, again, showed a high level of performance - of desire, of quality, and I’m really pleased, obviously.

“The way we started, having to play here on a Monday night, but the team showed again how much they want it, the quality we have, the determination to continue to go.”

So could the manager afford to relax and enjoy what he was watching once we went 3-0 up early on?

“Not really,” he smiles, “because you want to do better, do more and keep demanding them to keep the standards high and continue to play and evolve.

“We train every day with that mentality, with that desire, and if they can do it, why not consistently? That is something that we have to show.”

Arteta also added he was delighted to see the return of Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey, after their respective lay-offs.

“I’m happy that we have some players back as well. To see Fabio after that many months to see Thomas after four months, they are good signs from the team.”
