Interview

Arteta - We're here for moments like this

There's no doubt how much Mikel Arteta enjoyed our dramatic comeback victory over Wolves on Thursday night, and he loved the scenes at the end just as much.

The Emirates witnessed delirious scenes following Jose Sa's own goal in stoppage time, and the crucial win moved us to within a point of the top four, with games in hand.

Here's what the boss said to Arsenal Media after the game…

on the win…

Absolutely, the way you win it at the end makes it very special. You see the reaction, you see the connection with our fans, how much it means for the team, for the coaches, everybody on the staff, celebrating and it's great. I love that the team celebrates the victories. Because that's why we are here, to make people happy and today we have managed to do that.

on the celebrations…

Because I know how tough it is and people maybe don't realise. We beat Wolves twice in 13, 14 days. They haven't lost a game when they are ahead since 2018 so that tells you how difficult that is to do that. But at half-time I had that belief, I had that feeling that Gabi made an error but the team is going to respond and put that in the bin. Individually and collectively we had some big performances.

on whether we deserved it…

I think so. The way we approached it, the quality that we showed. We made mistakes, we went to the next action, we kept believing. To generate that amount of shouts against Wolves, who are one of the best teams in the league defensively, is to be proud of the team.

on the togetherness growing with the fans…

Yes, and those nights are going to make that relationship even stronger. We need that, if we possibly can from the first minute, or ten minutes before the match, and that's the challenge that I demand from them, because the team is going to keep trying and push, and give everything.

on the race for the top four…

Putting victories in a row, it gives you a great chance. The table looks much better/ We are still not there, we know the complexities and the difficulties of the team we are fighting with, but we go game by game.
