Arsenal Diary: What’s in store this week

Leah Lotte.

Our men’s first team aren’t in action this week, but there is still plenty going on across our women’s and academy teams.

Not to mention, both Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu are still involved in the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup for Egypt and Japan respectively.

Here’s what to look out for over the next seven days…

MONDAY

8pm - Cape Verde v Egypt

Elneny AFCON

Mohamed Elneny’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations continues as Egypt take on Group B leaders Cape Verde at 8pm (BST) tonight.

Cape Verde are top of the group with six points while Egypt are second with two having drawn both of their games so far.

WEDNESDAY

11.30am - Japan v Indonesia

Tomi cup

Similarly to Egypt, Japan are second in their group ahead of their third match in the Asian Cup.

Takehiro Tomiyasu will be hoping for a positive result against third-placed Indonesia in order to qualify for the knockout stages.

7pm - Reading v Arsenal Women

Reading

We’ve had a great start to 2024, beating Watford 5-1 in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and Everton 2-1 in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Now it’s time to turn attention back to the Conti Cup.

It’s the final game of the group stages and we are top of Group D with eight points while Reading are bottom with two. We will provide a full match report as well as all of the post-match reaction.

FRIDAY

7pm - Wolverhampton Wanderers v Arsenal U21s

Boro report

Our under-21s are back in action with a trip to Aggborough Stadium on Friday night.

Mehmet Ali’s young Gunners last played in a 1-0 win at home to Middlesbrough to go fourth in Premier League 2 Division One, while Wolves are 11th after a 4-3 win over Norwich City.

SATURDAY

11.30am - Leicester City v Arsenal U18s

18s coaches

Our under-18s will be hoping to show a response to last weekend’s disappointing loss at Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup when they travel to Leicester City on Saturday.

We’re fourth in the U18 Premier League South and on a good run of form in the league, while Leicester are eighth having not won in their last four league fixtures.

SUNDAY

4.30pm - Liverpool v Arsenal Women

Tranmere GV

Level on points with second-placed Manchester City and just three shy of leaders Chelsea, we’re off to Merseyside this weekend to take on a Liverpool outfit who are fifth in the division with 18 points.

The Reds lost 5-1 away to Man City on Sunday though, but don’t have a midweek fixture to contend with.

We will provide a full match report and all the post-match reaction right here on Arsenal.com and the official app.
