Alessia Russo named in FIFPRO World XI

Alessia Russo at the FIFA Best Awards in London

Alessia Russo has been named in the FIFPRO World XI for 2023 at The Best FIFA Football Awards, held in London on Monday night.

Highlighting the best footballers in the current game, the annual award is voted for by players and the 2023 award encompasses performances from August 1, 2022 to August 20, 2023.

During that time, Alessia helped England reach the final of the Women’s World Cup for the first time, having joined us from Manchester United earlier in the summer.

Alessia attended the ceremony at the Hammersmith Apollo for FIFA's version of the Ballon d'Or, and was joined in the World XI by six of her England teammates - Mary Earps, Alex Greenwood, Lucy Bronze, Ella Toone, Keira Walsh and Lauren James.

The other four players included were Aitana Bonmati and Olga Carmona of world champions Spain, Chelsea striker Sam Kerr and USA legend Alex Morgan.

For her exploits at the World Cup, another summer recruit in Amanda Ilestedt was also nominated as one of the 23 finalists but didn’t make the final team.
