Interview

Agyemang: "The club means everything to me"

After first joining our club at just six years old, Michelle Agyemang is officially here to stay.

The 18-year-old forward rose through the ranks of our academy to make her senior debut last season against Leicester City, and has now signed her first professional contract with the club.

"It feels good," said Agyemang, after putting pen to paper. "I still haven't taken it all in but I'm really happy to be here at this club, full of amazing professionals, players, staff and coaches.

"The club means everything to me. Not being anywhere else, it means more to be here and to sign the contract. It really makes it special."

Our England youth international reflected back on her Arsenal journey so far, which has seen her grow on and off the football pitch.

"I was just a little six-year-old walking in for my first trial. I was a bit nervous, but here I am today.

"Growing up, back when I first started, it was around the time of Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith. They were big players I looked up to.

"I've made a lot of friends on the way. Some are still here, some aren't but it's been really good to see a lot of players progress as well."

Agyemang spent this past season on loan at Watford in the Women's Championship, a perfect opportunity to gain some regular experience in senior football.

"Playing in the Championship has definitely taught me to be resilient, especially as the team was going through a relegation battle. It showed me the value of three points, and then just working hard and trying to get the best possible results."

Spending time in the first-team environment at Arsenal has also been an enriching experience for Agyemang.

"The thing I've enjoyed the most is being around such amazing players. Especially, the quality of training sessions and travelling for UWCL trips last season - that was really great.

"The one thing that's surprised me the most is just how down-to-earth all the players are. I think the first person I met here might have been Jordan Nobbs and it was cool to see how friendly everyone was.

"I'm just really excited. It was great last season to make my debut and score as well. So I think obviously, going into next season and beyond, I just want to build up the goals and try to help the team as best as I can."
