Caitlin Foord’s decision to swap Sydney for London was a simple one.
The Australia international enjoyed three successful seasons in the W-League, scoring 15 times in 30 appearances, but now she’s looking to make her mark in Europe under the guidance of compatriot Joe Montemurro.
We spoke to Foord after she signed her deal - and this is what she said:
on joining Arsenal…
I’m super excited, I can’t wait to get over there now and finally get started. Things are starting to feel real.
on choosing Arsenal…
After Joe showed interest in me it was almost a no-brainer. The club is one of the best in the world and with the players who are involved, they are world class. For me, I’m still learning, I still want to get better so I think surrounding myself with those players and in that environment, it’s going to help me take my game to the next level. Hopefully I can help the team as well.
on her discussions with Joe…
I was pretty much sold after the first conversation with him. I just got a really good vibe and I’ve heard a lot of really good things about him from other players and I guess it was just something I wanted to be involved in, with him, the team and the players as well.
on the project at Arsenal…
Being able to be in Europe, the FA Cup, the Champions League, it’s what every footballer dreams of. To be able to do that with such an amazing club is an opportunity that I just couldn’t turn down. Obviously the girls there are pushing to do that now and I just want to be involved and want to help.
on her own style of play…
I’d like to think I’m an exciting player. I love to get on the dribble and run at players. I like to take people on, the fans will have to see soon and see what their thoughts are.
on linking up with her team-mates…
I’m really excited but to be honest I’m actually quite nervous. I don’t know anyone on the team or share any mutual friends so it’s definitely going to be a new challenge, but I’m excited. It’s almost like a fresh start and I’m excited to meet them all and start being teammates.
