Arsenal Ladies completed the double FA Cup defeat of Cardiff
City on Sunday with a 4-1 win following the men's 2-1 victory a
day before at Highbury.
Cardiff started brightly but Arsenal soon got a firm grip on the
game and after 10 minutes goal machine Julie Fleeting put her side
ahead with a glancing header from the first corner of the
match.
Although Arsenal dominated possession and were denied their
second after hitting the crossbar, Cardiff drew level midway
through the half after a counter-attack saw Arsenal opened up at
the back.
In the second half Arsenal's finishing showed a marked
improvement and, after some good movement down the left by Kelly
Smith, her cross found Fleeting in space at the back post. The
Scotland striker had time to calmly chest down the ball and slip it
past the advancing keeper for her second of the game.
It was another corner which led to Arsenal's third in the 65th
minute. Sanderson's delivery was met by Faye White at the back
post and the Arsenal captain slotted in the rebound after her
initial header was saved by Cardiff's keeper.
Arsenal's victory and passage through to the Fifth Round was
sealed five minutes later when Yankey rounded two defenders on the
edge of the box and fired an unstoppable shot from 18 yards into
the top right hand corner.
