Tommy Rudkin

Tommy Rudkin only spent a few months at Arsenal before joining Southampton as part of the deal which brought Don Roper to north London.

Rudkin moved to the Club from Peterborough United in January 1947 and made his league debut in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa later that month.

The outside left had started his Arsenal career in promising fashion and made five appearances in consecutive matches, scoring twice.

But when the opportunity arose to sign Roper from Southampton, Rudkin was sent the other way together with £11,000 in August 1947.

He served in the RAF during the Second World War and later played for Bristol City, Hastings and Weston-Super-Mare.
