Sam Raybould

Sam Raybould

Sam Raybould did not live up to the highs of his Liverpool days at Arsenal.

The striker joined from Sunderland in May 1908 after a brief but successful spell on Wearside. Jackie Mordue headed in the other direction in a part-exchange deal.

Raybould featured prominently in the 1909/10 season as Arsenal narrowly avoided relegation with an 18th-place finish in Division One, appearing 30 times and scoring seven goals.

But the striker, who had previously won club and Football League honours on Merseyside, struggled to reproduce his excellent goalscoring form and left for Chesterfield in 1909.
