Ronnie Rooke was a prolific striker during his two-and-a-half-year spell at Highbury and still holds Arsenal's post-war goalscoring record for an individual season.
Many have since tried (and failed) to beat Rooke's 33-goal haul in the 1947/48 campaign, which helped Arsenal win the Division One title. The Gunners only had eight different goalscorers that season - but they did not need any more with Rooke in such fine form.
Naturally he was the league's top marksman that season too, as a 17-match unbeaten run at the start of the campaign saw Arsenal cruise to their first post-war title.
There were some handsome victories along the way, but none more so than the 8-0 final-day win over Grimsby Town, in which Rooke scored four.
The striker joined the Club from Fulham in December 1946, having been the Cottagers' top goalscorer for three consecutive seasons in Division Two.
He was 35 when he joined but it made little difference as he scored on his debut against Charlton and hit 21 goals in 24 matches during the 1946/47 campaign.
Rooke served as a PT Instructor in the RAF during the Second World War and won England honours during his spell at Fulham.
Ninety four starts, 70 goals, a league winners' medal and a long-standing record later, Rooke transferred to Crystal Palace as player-manager in June 1949. He was later player-manager at Bradford before his retirement.
Rooke died in 1985.
