Ralph Gaudie

Ralph Gaudie was Woolwich Arsenal’s highest goalscorer in consecutive seasons at the turn of the century and scored a hat-trick in the Club’s highest ever win, a 12-0 victory over Loughborough.

The centre forward joined from Sheffield United in October 1899 and went on to score 23 goals in 50 appearances.

Gaudie was top of the goalscoring charts in 1899/1900, finding the net 15 times in 25 league appearances including that treble against Loughborough.

Despite missing 12 games of the following season through illness he was again the highest scorer at the Club, with eight goals from 22 games.

He retired from football at the end of that season due to ill health but returned to league action with Manchester United in 1903.
