Peter Marinello was so talented he was dubbed 'the next George Best' when he joined Arsenal for a club-record fee of £100,000 in January 1970.
His debut for Bertie Mee's side lived up to the hype. Marinello scored a fine goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford just days after signing for the Gunners and was instantly a fans' favourite.
But that was as good as it got for Marinello. The Scottish youth international was just 19 when he moved from Hibernian to London and he would later admit that the transfer came too soon.
The media hype surrounding the talented young winger was intense and, before long, a loss of form and fitness left him on the periphery of the Arsenal first-team picture.
Marinello was at Highbury for the 1970/71 Double triumph but only played three times and, although he made more of an impact in the next two seasons, the Scot left Arsenal for Portsmouth in July 1973.
He left Arsenal with a tally of five goals in 51 games for the Club.
