Malcolm Webster

Malcom Webster

Goalkeeper Malcolm Webster joined Arsenal as an apprentice in May 1966, before turning professional at Highbury two years later.

His first senior appearance was not in the comforts of north London, however, but as a substitute in the unfamiliar surroundings of Reykjavik in Iceland for a tour in 1969.

Webster did make his competitive debut in a 3-2 defeat at Tottenham in September that year, and it was the first of six starts for the Yorkshire-born keeper.

He eventually made a loan move to Fulham permanent for £10,000 in June 1970, featuring for the final time in an Arsenal shirt in a League Cup defeat to Everton.

Webster went on to play for Southend United and Cambridge United and eventually became a coach and then assistant manager with the latter in 1986.
