Mal Griffiths played for Arsenal during the 1930s but is better known for his 18-year career with Leicester City.
The outside right moved to Highbury as an amateur in September 1935 and spent seven months at the Club before joning Arsenal’s nursery, Margate, in May 1936. He returned to sign professional terms in February 1937.
Griffiths was the Club’s regular reserve right winger before replacing Alf Kirchen against, coincidently, Leicester for his debut in February 1938. He played nine league games at the end of the 1937/38 season, scoring five times, before moving to Leicester for £1,250.
He went on to play more than 400 first-team games for the East Midlands club, helping them win the Second Division Championship in 1953/54. He also won 11 Wales caps during that time.
Griffiths retired at the end of the 1955/56 season and signed part-time for Burton Albion. He died in April 1969, aged 50.
