Laurie Scott joined Arsenal from Bradford City in February 1937 in a part-exchange deal which saw Ernie Tuckett head the other way.
The tenacious full back went on to spend over 14 years at Highbury, playing 126 matches in a hugely-successful career in north London.
Scott was part of the side that claimed the 1947/48 First Division title, as well as helping lift the 1950 FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Liverpool.
He also captained Arsenal during his career, which began with a first senior appearance against Copenhagen on a tour of Denmark in May 1937.
The defender earned England recognition and won 17 caps between 1946 and 1948 while still at the Club, as well as a further four in the B team where he held the captain's armband.
Two cartilage operations in 1949 effectively ended Scott's playing career but it did not stop him joining Crystal Palace as player-manager two years later. He was eventually sacked in 1954 before later becoming a sales representative for a hardware firm.
Scott was also a PT instructor in the RAF during World War Two, and made 16 wartime international appearances.
