Johnny Petts joined Arsenal as an apprentice in April 1954 and turned professional two years later.
The wing half, who played for Edmonton, Middlesex and London schoolboys, made his Gunners debut in a 2-1 defeat to Bolton in February 1958.
He played nine times in his debut campaign but found himself on the fringes of Arsenal's first team throughout his eight-year spell at the Club.
That was largely due to National Service in the Army between 1957 and 1959, prior to which Petts had won seven England youth caps.
He transferred to Reading for £5,000 in October 1962.
