John 'Jock' Rutherford enjoyed three separate spells with Arsenal over a 13-year period.
The outside right initially joined from Newcastle United in October 1913 for £800 and spent 10 years at Arsenal before joining Stoke as manager.
He resigned in August 1923 after just two months in the job and returned to Arsenal as a player in September. The winger retired in 1925 but re-joined for a third time.
Rutherford arrived at the Club having won club and international honours at Newcastle.
He made his league debut in a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in November 1913, which proved to be the first of 232 appearances for the Club and he scored 27 goals.
In addition, the attacking midfielder played 91 times during the First World War.
Rutherford retired from professional football at the end of the 1926/27 campaign. His son, John, also played for Arsenal between 1924-27.
