Joe Toner

Joe Toner spent seven years at Arsenal after joining from Belfast United in August 1919.

The outside left eventually clocked up exactly 100 appearances during his time at Highbury but was generally a player on the fringes of the first team.

Toner, a miner by trade, picked up six full caps for Northern Ireland while with Arsenal and achieved further international honours later in his career.

He transferred to St Johnstone in January 1926 but suffered a broken leg in Scotland which ultimately cut short his career prematurely. Toner was forced to give up the game but returned after a year with Coleraine in Northern Ireland.
