Most famous for winning a gold medal at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, Gordon Hoare first signed for Arsenal on May 18, 1907 but had to wait until April 1908 before he made his senior debut in a league game at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
The forward left to join Glossop in December 1909 but was back at Arsenal a year later. With first-team opportunities limited, Hoare again transferred to Glossop in 1912 and scored two goals for Great Britain in their 4-2 win over Denmark in the Olympic men’s football final that summer.
Hoare scored 13 senior goals for Arsenal and went on to play for Queen’s Park and Fulham, where he retired in 1920.
