Gifted playmaker Emile had to be patient once again last season. Having spent much of 2022/23 on the sidelines, he picked up a knee injury on his first Premier League start of the campaign – our 5-0 win over Sheffield United in October 2023 – that sidelined him for six weeks and interrupted the momentum he had been building with a series of promising cameos. He made 19 appearances in all competitions, and particularly shone in the home win over Luton Town in early April.

The creative midfielder, who joined the Hale End academy aged ten, showed his potential by scoring ten goals in 33 Premier League appearances in 2021/22, having made his first-team debut in September 2018, aged 18, before netting his first goal just two weeks later.

He gained experience during loan spells with Red Bull Leipzig in the Bundesliga in 2019 and Huddersfield Town in the Championship the following year, before returning home and netting his first Premier League goal for us against West Brom in May 2021.

Part of England’s Under-17 World Cup winning side in 2017, he made his senior debut in a 5-0 win over Albania in November 2021 and scored his first England goal days later in a 10-0 win over San Marino.
