Eddie Carr joined Arsenal as an amateur in February 1935 and turned professional within three months.
The young centre forward went to Margate - then Arsenal’s nursery club - and returned to Highbury in 1937.
Carr played 12 times in the following three years after making his debut against Manchester City in February 1938.
The striker, who worked as a pit boy at Wheatley Colliery before taking up football, suffered a serious knee injury in the reserves in 1939 and it was thought he would never play again.
But although he did, he transferred to Huddersfield Town for £1,750 in October 1945 after the Second World War.
He worked down the pit again during wartime and later played for Newport County, Bedford City and Darlington before moving into management.
