Welsh international wing half Dave Bowen was captain of club and country while at Arsenal, featuring in the 1958 World Cup.
Signing professional for Northampton Town in July 1947, he moved to Highbury for £1,000 in July 1950 and understudied Joe Mercer as Arsenal won the league title in 1952/53.
Bowen scored twice in 146 First Division games for the Gunners before returning to Northampton as player-manager for £5,000 in July 1959, plotting their remarkable rise to the top flight.
Also managing the Welsh national side for seven years, he later became Northampton's secretary and died in September 1995. (With thanks to Leigh Edwards)
