Chris Buckley

Christopher Buckley was a regular for Arsenal in his two full seasons either side of the First World War.

The centre half, younger brother of former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Frank, joined from Aston Villa in May 1914 after a distinguished spell in the West Midlands.

Buckley played 29 times in the last competitive season before the outbreak of the First World War, when he took up farming in Redditch. The defender also made 33 wartime appearances for the Club.

Buckley resumed duties with the Gunners, now in the First Division, after the war's end and played 23 times before a broken leg ended his Highbury career. He had appeared 59 times, scoring three goals.

After retiring he returned to Aston Villa, where he became a director and chairman.
