Only 10 players in Arsenal history have made more appearances than Bob John.
The committed defender played 470 times over a 15-year spell in north London after joining from Caerphilly Town in January 1922.
John helped Arsenal win three First Division titles between 1931 and 1934, and lifted the FA Cup once in 1930.
He was a mainstay of Herbert Chapman's all-conquering side and also played in the 1927 and 1932 FA Cup finals (which Arsenal lost to to Cardiff and Newcastle respectively).
John made his debut in a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in October 1922 and appeared prominently in his debut campaign.
He fell out of favour the following season and made only 15 appearances but his spell out of the first team did not last long and he remained a regular for the next decade.
The defender was equally adept at either left back or left half and won the first of 15 Welsh caps in his first season at Highbury.
John scored Arsenal's only goal of the controversial 1932 FA Cup final in which the Gunners suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.
Although he scarcely featured in his final three seasons at the Club, John's reputation as a true Arsenal legend was already secure.
On his retirement he became a coach at West Ham United and briefly managed Torquay after the Second World War.
