Bob Buist played in Woolwich Arsenal's first-ever league match against Newcastle United.
The versatile defender, who operated as a centre half or a full back, started against the Magpies in our first season as a Football League club in September 1893.
After joining from Clyde in September 1891, Buist represented Royal Arsenal and made 93 senior appearances, scoring five times.
He made his first-class debut in an FA Cup first-round defeat to Small Heath in January 1892.
Buist played 17 times in Woolwich Arsenal's first season as a league club before leaving in 1894. He later played for Leith Athletic, Royal Ordnance FC and Gravesend.
His brother, George, also played for the Club between 1896 and 1897.
