Alex Wilson joined Arsenal from Greenock Morton for £600 in May 1933.
Wilson took up football after working as a lathe operator in Scotland, winning honours with Greenock before making the move to London under Herbert Chapman.
The goalkeeper initially found first-team opportunities hard to come by but staked his claim for the No 1 spot in the 1935/36 season during George Allison's time at the helm.
Wilson eventually went on to make 90 starts over eight years at Highbury, winning the FA Cup in 1936 and the London Combinations championship five years running between 1933 and 1938.
The goalkeeper was eventually transferred to St Mirren in January 1941 and took up physiotherapy upon his retirement.
He was appointed by Kent County Cricket Club before enjoying spells as a trainer/physio with Brighton, Worthing, Birmingham, Sunderland and Blackpool.
Wilson later headed to America with NASL side Boston Beacons, remaining in the States after the Soccer League folded until his death in 1971.
