Scotland international wing-half Alex Forbes starred in Arsenal's 1952/53 League Championship success.
Starting with Dundee North End, he joined Sheffield United in December 1944 and moved to Highbury for £12,500 in February 1948.
He featured in the Gunners' 1950 FA Cup final triumph and was a finalist again in 1952, scoring 20 times in 217 First Division games prior to joining Leyton Orient in August 1956.
Later with Fulham and Gravesend & Northfleet, he returned to coach Arsenal juniors before emigrating to South Africa where he coached and managed various leading clubs.

WHAT THE FANS SAID:
I'll never forget the day in 1950 when Alex Forbes came out the main entrance at Highbury and let me and a mate hold up the FA Cup for a BBC news team.
