WHAT HAPPENED
Hubert Graczyk, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Kido Taylor-Hart all made their debuts as our under-23s were beaten by Liverpool in the Premier League 2 on Friday night.
William Saliba started and played 77 minutes, while summer signing Joel Ideho also featured in our matchday squad for the first time.
It was an open game in the early exchanges with both sides threatening on the break.
Folarin Balogun, who made his first-team debut on Thursday night, started brightly and carved out two promising chances, firing over following some fine footwork, before Jack Cain dragged an effort wide for the visitors.
Liverpool then took control and after a patient passing move, Thomas Clayton found the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Following the restart, Balogun came close with a glancing header at the far post and called for a penalty after a challenge inside the area, but the referee waved away our claims.
Ben Cottrell had a late chance to equalise following a searching pass from Saliba, only for his powerful effort to be blocked from close range.
