WHAT HAPPENED

Our unbeaten start to 2020 came to an end on a frustrating afternoon as we lost at Liverpool.

The first chance of the match fell to the hosts midway through the first half when Jack Bearne drove down the wing and forced Karl Hein into a save, before Dal Varesanovic fired the rebound wide.

Liverpool’s pressure paid off shortly after when a ball lofted into box reached an unmarked Morgan Boyes at the back post, who headed home to break the deadlock.

On the stroke of half time the Reds doubled their advantage when Varesanovic lost his marker inside the box, and swept James Norris’s pinpoint cross into the bottom corner.

Liverpool thought they had scored a third four minutes after the restart when Varesanovic headed home following a corner, but the referee ruled out his effort after Hein was fouled.

Liverpool made it three when Luis Longstaff collected the ball on the edge of the box, skipped past a challenge and curled an unstoppable shot into the net.

In the closing stages of the match, on the counter attack, Folarin Balogun progressed with the ball and struck the post with a powerful effort before the rebound fell to Sam Greenwood, but he saw his goalbound strike blocked.
