WHAT HAPPENED

We delivered a spirited defensive performance in the Premier League 2 on Monday night, holding table-toppers Everton to a 0-0 draw.

Freddie Ljungberg’s side boast the league’s most dangerous front-line, while the hosts came into this game having conceded fewer goals than any other side in the division.

As a result, the vast majority of the fixture proved to be a midfield battle, as both sides fought for control in a tightly-contested clash.

Xavier Amaechi created our first chance of the evening, troubling former Gunner Joao Virginia with a free-kick from 25 yards, before Tyreece John-Jules’ improvised backheel was cleared off the line.

Josh Bowler then went on to miss the target with a golden opportunity from six yards out in Everton’s best first-half chance.

Following the break, we maintained our defensive shape and professional attitude, limiting the hosts to a number of speculative long-range efforts.

Daniel Ballard and Julio Pleguezuelo were particularly impressive, denying forward Bassala Sambou any time or space inside the area.

There was a late scare as Bowler fired the ball past Deyan Iliev and into the back of the net - but much to the relief of our youngsters, it was ruled out for offside.
