WHAT HAPPENED
We’re still searching for our first win in the Leasing.com Trophy after Joe Ward’s deflected effort gave Peterborough a narrow victory.
We came close to opening the scoring when Zak Swanson forced a save from Christy Pym and Nathan Tormey’s follow-up strike flashed across the face of goal from a tight angle.
We were finding joy down the right-hand side and Swanson played Ben Cottrell into the box, but his cross somehow evaded Sam Greenwood and Tormey inside the six-yard box.
Matt Macey was called into action when Siriki Dembele weaved his way through our defence and let fly at goal, but our goalkeeper made a strong save to his left to keep it goalless.
Tormey again came close to grabbing the opener but his shot from the edge of the box flew just wide of the post.
Peterborough started the second half brightly and would have been ahead had it not been for two excellent saves by Macey. For the first, he clutched the ball from the sky before it could be inevitably headed home and minutes later he flew across goal to prevent Idris Kanu from slamming into an empty net.
Macey was finally beaten in the 65th minute when Ward’s effort from long range deflected off Medley, wrong-footed the keeper and curled into the bottom corner.
Deep into injury time, Macey made another fantastic save to his left to deny Peterborough their second as Ward tried his luck again from long range.
WHAT IT MEANS
We remain third in Group H behind Northampton Town and Peterborough.
