We were held to a 2-2 draw by Burnley in an entertaining game in our second group-stage match in the U-18 Premier League Cup on Saturday.
We made a bright start at London Colney, and came close to the opener when Charlie Sagoe Jr - who scored a dramatic late winner in our opening clash in the competition - combined well with Marcelo Flores, whose firm shot was saved.
The in-from Khayon Edwards soon came close with a stinging drive from the edge of the area that was saved well by Charlie Casper, with the Burnley keeper also blocked Sagoe Jr’s follow-up effort.
We made the breakthrough seven minutes before the interval when James Sweet was tripped in the area, and Flores made no mistake from the resulting penalty.
But we were pegged back at the start of the second half when Flores was closed down on the edge of the box, and Will Hugill slotted home for the Clarets.
Flores soon tested Casper again after a twisting, turning run into the Burnley box but the goalkeeper was equal to it.
But we didn’t have long to wait to retake the lead when Sagoe Jr found space in the box and fired a dangerous ball across goal, only for Dan Sassi to turn it into his own goal.
Just as it looked like we would secure our second win on the bounce in the competition, Burnley burst forward and Tremaine Eastmond supplied a neat finish to a sweeping ball into the area to equalise.
