WHAT HAPPENED

Our under-18s kicked off their Premier League Cup campaign in style on Saturday, beating Wolves 3-0 on the road.

Captain Ben Cottrell delivered a man-of-the-match performance on his return from injury, while Miguel Azeez dominated the midfield from start to finish.

The latter came close to an opener after seeing his chipped effort saved by Jackson Smith, before his goalbound strike from inside the six-yard box was somehow cleared off the line.

We deserved to be ahead and thankfully we didn’t have to wait much longer, as Cottrell made a run into the area and showed great composure to dink the ball into the back of the net.

Five minutes before the break we doubled our advantage through Catalin Cirjan, who latched on to Azeez’s delicate through ball and finished into the bottom corner for his first of the season.

Hubert Grazyck then produced a vital second-half save to deny substitute Jack Hodnett, before Alfie Matthews pounced on a defensive error and made it three with a towering header inside the area.
