WHAT HAPPENED

We made it four wins in the bounce with a hard-fought victory at Wolves on Saturday evening following goals from Bukayo Saka and Alex Lacazette.

The result capped off a fine week in which we have picked up six points, and tied down two of our finest talents to long-term contracts.

Coming up against a home side that had won all three of their games since the restart and were yet to concede, it took less than 30 seconds to witness the threat they posed as Adama Traore nearly poked the ball past Emi Martinez.

Our goalkeeper stood up well to the challenge, and in truth was relatively untroubled for much of the first half – although Wolves’ in-form forward did set pulses racing every time he set off with the ball at his feet.

But the opening period was cagey at best, although we flickered into life towards the end of it when Eddie Nketiah nearly caught out Rui Patricio with a snap shot that the hosts’ goalkeeper pushed on to the post and away.

But with 40 minutes on the clock, the Portuguese stopper could do nothing to stop Saka as our brilliant teenager hooked in a stunning hooked finish from inside the area.

It was just what we wanted before the break, and as expected Wolves came right back at us at the start of the second half but, for all their pressure, Martinez remained underworked.

Just after the hour mark, with the home side firmly knocking on the door, David Luiz was called into action to make a fine block to deny Diego Jota before Traore raced through and chipped it over Martinez but inches over the bar.

But as the game wore on, we started to look more of a threat on the break and, with five minutes remaining, we wrapped up a big three points when Lacazette fired into the far corner moments after coming on.

There was still time for Joe Willock to see a shot cleared off the line, but there was no further drama after that and all that was left was to celebrate a fine victory on the road.
