In recent years North Carolina has been a growing hot spot for Arsenal in the USA, and you can now find five branches of Arsenal America across the Tar Heel State in Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem.
Winston-Salem’s branch, known as the Camel City Gooners, was founded in 2013 by three co-workers that shared a passion for the club. The group is named after its home city’s nickname - earned for its long historical association with the tobacco industry. But the Piedmont Triad is also home to a strong culture of the arts and plenty of enthusiasm for playing and watching soccer.
In the seasons since the group was founded, it has grown from a few fans into a welcoming family of enthusiastic Arsenal supporters that celebrate match days, international tournaments, summer cookouts and opportunities to play FootGolf together.
The group quickly outgrew its original pub and you can now find the Camel City Gooners at Small Batch Beer Company in downtown Winston-Salem on match days, where visitors from near and far are welcome to join them to cheer on the Gunners! On an average match day, you can expect 15-20 fellow fans, with upwards of 50 attendees for major events like Cup Finals.
