WHAT HAPPENED

Our Premier League International Cup campaign came to an end on Tuesday night as we were beaten 7-2 by PSV at Meadow Park in our final Group B game.

Mehmet Ali's side fell behind after just six minutes as Mathijs Tielemans curled his first-time effort beyond Karl Hein from the edge of the area.

Two minutes later the visitors had doubled their advantage, Tielemans pouncing on a loose touch from Mauro Bandeira to cause uncertainty at the back and set up Dante Sealy to finish from close range after a deflection off Henry Jeffcott.

Jason van Dulven made it three for the Dutch side inside nine minutes, tapping into an empty net after some well-worked build-up play caught our defence cold.

Joel ideho pulled one back for us 10 minutes before the break, capitalising on a misplaced pass to drive through on goal and finish calmly past Niek Schiks at the near post.

We added a second in first-half stoppage time, our captain Matt Smith sending Schiks the wrong way from the spot after Charles Sagoe Jr was tripped by Tielemans in the box.

Our hopes of mounting a second-half comeback were dented shortly after the restart, Mohamed Nassoh's free-kick taking a deflection off George Lewis in the wall and falling into the path of Van Dulven to head home.

PSV added their fifth of the night three minutes later when Nassoh fired into the roof of Hein's net after more intricate play around our penalty area.

Substitute August Priske Flyger added a late brace to increase the visitors' final tally to seven, as we bowed out of the Premier League International Cup group stage.

WHAT IT MEANS

Defeat means we fail to qualify from Group B in the Premier League International Cup after picking up four points from as many matches.

WHAT'S NEXT

We have a chance to bounce back from this defeat when we return to Premier League 2 action away to Wolves on Monday, February 13.

Kick-off at the Compton Park Training Ground is at 1pm (UK).
