WHAT HAPPENED
We fell to our third defeat of the season in Premier League 2, losing 2-0 away to Wolves on Monday afternoon.
Despite a bright start, we were behind after just eight minutes when Pedro Neto dispossessed Maldini Kacurri and drilled his low shot in the far corner.
We gave ourselves a mountain to climb as Wolves doubled their lead midway through the first half through Dexter Lembikisa’s emphatic finish.
Openings were few and far between for us and it looked like we should have had a penalty when Benjamin appeared to be tripped in the box but the referee waved play on.
Charles Sagoe Jr came close to pulling one back after he latched onto Matt Smith’s incisive through ball but his shot was well saved by Louie Moulden.
After the break, Mehmet made three changes which included the pacy Joel Ideho, and he came just inches away from bringing us back into the game but his long-range free kick crashed off the crossbar.
As we threw men forward in search of a goal, we left ourselves exposed but Hubert Graczyk pulled off two magnificent saves in the closing stages.
We continued to battle hard but we struggled to break down Wolves’ strong rearguard and went home empty-handed.
WHAT IT MEANS
We remain fourth in the Premier League 2 table, with 26 points from 15 games played.
WHAT'S NEXT
We have an opportunity to bounce back in Premier League 2 on Friday, February 17, when we host West Ham United in a London derby.
Kick-off at Meadow Park is at 7pm (UK).
