WSL Preview: Arsenal Women v West Ham United

Arsenal Women v West Ham United. November 26, 2023. Meadow Park

Our Gunners are aiming to extend an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions this weekend as we take on West Ham United.

The visitors head to Meadow Park with only one WSL win under their belt so far this season.

Last time around

The last time we hosted the Hammers at Meadow Park, we broke WSL records with a 13th consecutive league win.

Dagny Brynjarsdottir opened the scoring for the visitors but it didn't take long for Jordan Nobbs to equalise with a rocket through a crowded penalty area. Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum then completed the job in the second half.

A hard start for the Hammers

West Ham United Women in a training drill

It's been a rough start to the 2023/24 season for Rehanne Skinner's side, who have only recorded one win and a draw from seven WSL fixtures.

An early result against Brighton & Hove Albion and a draw with Matt Beard's Liverpool side made way for losses against Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, meaning the Hammers currently sit second from bottom in the table. Last weekend against Aston Villa, they were undone by a Rachel Daly stoppage-time winner.

In the goalscoring stakes, the club are sorely missing captain and last season's top scorer Dagny Brynjarsdottir, who is on maternity leave.

Team news

Lotte Wubben-Moy claps the supporters

In his pre-match press conference, Jonas Eidevall provided updates on the three absentees from the squad that faced Southampton. Lotte Wubben-Moy had been granted time off after the Lionesses' World Cup run and will be available for Sunday.

As for Kim Little and Stina Blackstenius, our coach was hopeful that the pair would be involved against the Hammers but admitted a decision would be made late on.

Leah Williamson, Laura Wienroither and Teyah Goldie continue their ACL rehabilitation at London Colney.

Eidevall's preview

Eidevall on West Ham: "West Ham are a strong, competitive team. They're well organised and work really hard together. They’re going to pose difficult questions to any team that plays them.

"Their performances definitely command respect and we need to be a very good version of ourselves on Sunday." Read every word of the boss' presser
