Wilshere lauds team character in cup win

Jack Wilshere lauded the resilience of his players after our late win over Derby County in the Premier League Cup.

Harrison Dudziak's opening goal set the tone, and Ismeal Kabia's stoppage-time strike sealed a crucial three points in our quest to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Jack acknowledged the team's performance wasn't at its peak but emphasised the importance of grinding out results in challenging situations.

Reflecting on the game, Wilshere stated, "It was a strange game. I didn't think we were anywhere near our best, but, like you said, we won the game. It's about finding that balance between getting the right result and playing better. The players showed character, finding a way when not at their best."

Commending Ismeal Kabia, who made a stellar comeback scoring an injury-time winner after a prolonged injury absence, Wilshere expressed his happiness for the winger, "I’m really happy for Kabia on scoring the winner. He’s been out for a long time, and he deserves it. I’ve been in that position throughout my career; it’s not a nice feeling, so I’m buzzing he got the winner."

Speaking about the broader theme of character, Wilshere stressed its vital role, stating, "Everyone on the pitch had that character; that’s the starting point for any career.

"To have a successful career, you need to be willing to fight and overcome suffering when it's hard. It's not as simple as just turning up because you play for Arsenal."

Looking ahead to the upcoming break, Wilshere outlined the team's plans, stating, "We have a couple of weeks until our next game. We’ll be training, and we’ve got the Youth Cup coming up.

"It’s a really important period. We want to be in a position that when we come back against Fulham in the league, we'll try to win that game and get better as a team."
