‘We’re so lucky to have her behind us’

Heather O’Reilly looked to take the positives from our draw against Reading at Adams Park.

Following the match the United States international praised her teammate Sari van Veenendaal for her heroics in goal:

on the performance…

We’re about winning football games, so for us to only get a draw out of this game is really frustrating, but Reading are a very good team. To get a point away from home, there are some positives in that, but I think we’re frustrated because we knew we had the run of play, the better chances and the better looks on goal, so we’re disappointed not to score. There are some positives to take away from it, but as I said, we’re about winning games.

I think we corrected some things in the second-half, they were very good at playing with their very talented diamond in midfield and we sort of stifled that in the second half and it was all about Arsenal football in the second half. I think we made the correct changes and that’s why it’s frustrating that we didn’t get a goal.

on keeping a clean sheet…

Keeping a clean sheet is positive and Sari came up with a big-time save at the end, that’s what you need from your goalkeeper, she’s world class, so we’re lucky to have her behind us.

on what went wrong up front…

I think we created enough chances to put the game away, sometimes you’re lucky to get one or two chances and we had certainly around six or seven quality opportunities.

on the league title…

I think the gap is big now, but at the end of the day we can look at it one game at a time. I think we have 12 games left or so, so anything can happen and we have a big four months ahead of us. It will be a big challenge, the gap is large, but we have to stay together and fight.
