‘We were clinical at the right times’

Kim Little delivered a captain’s performance in our return to the Champions League on Thursday night, as we ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Fiorentina.

The Scotland international scored our second of the night after latching on to an intelligent pass from Vivianne Miedema and firing into the bottom corner - but it was her silky combination play that left fans purring at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Read on for Little's thoughts about her understanding with Miedema, our tactical versatility and more.

on our return to Champion League football…

It’s nice to be back in the Champions League and obviously an away game in Florence is nice to come to! But mostly importantly we got the win and we didn’t concede so we go home happy.

on stepping up to the challenge…

I think a lot of us have experience of playing in the Champions League and at the highest level, so I think we slotted back in very nicely and managed the game really well. It was a really professional performance.

on whether Fiorentina opting for five at the back surprised her…

Playing at home and playing against us with the way we play, teams are always going to try and stop us from playing. We had a number of different ways that we were going to change tactically if we needed to, based on how they set up, so I think we dealt with that very well and we were well prepared going into the game. We were clinical at the right times.

on our versatility…

We’ve got very versatile players who can play in a number of different positions; some can step forward from defence into the midfield and others can swap wings and come inside. It’s great to have a wide selection of players to choose from.

on her combination play with Miedema…

I think the way me and Viv play is pretty instinctive. We know each other’s qualities and we play off that very well.
