Kieran Tierney’s first goal of the season proved crucial on Thursday night – it was enough to give us the three points to seal top spot in Group A.
It means we go straight through to the round of 16 in March, missing out the play-off round in February, and will be seeded when that draw is made.
The Scottish full-back’s first-half strike was his first for us since Boxing Day last year, and he said it was overdue.
“It’s been coming - I’ve not scored in a while!” he told Arsenal Media after the game. “I’ve been getting closer in the last few games and I’d just like to tell the boys it’s about time I scored.
“Job done is how you’d describe it,” he added. “We’d have liked it to be more comfortable but it was never going to be easy. They came here with a lot to play for as well. But we dug deep and we defended well at the end. They put a lot of pressure on us.”
With European football now safely on the back burner until next year, Kieran said that attention has already switched to the Premier League clash away to Chelsea in the early kick-off this Sunday.
“Yeah, straight away. As soon as we finished this game, it’s Chelsea straight away. We know it’s going to be a tough game. We’ve not got a lot of recovery but the boys will be ready for it, 100 per cent.”
